Job Seeker Advice: Lack of Response

Job hunters. What to do in the meantime.

For many, things are grim. The economy is uncertain and there are many factors playing a role in the long runway back to stability. The reality is we are in Q4 when many\most companies hit pause on hiring until new budgets are established and approved for Q1 of next year. It can be unsettling to go into the holidays without the assurance of full-time employment as your safety net.

Here are a few tips to pave the way.

This is the time to embrace family.
It’s easy to say that without steady income, but at the same time, we all know it’s tough to take time off when starting a new role. The universe has given you this time for one reason or other, so take advantage of it and spend more time with family and friends.

Strengthen your network.
Your network is your best path to your next role. Whether it be through an introduction or a direct line to a role someone you know is hiring for. It’s very common to not feed into your network when you’re busy with work or don’t “need” those relationships, but now is the time to reconnect and expand your personal and professional network.

Educate yourself.
Certifications. New methodologies\technologies\etc. These alone won’t land your next role, but if comes down to a select few and you have that cert or class in X, Y, or Z; that could be the differentiator between you and your competition.

Keep grinding.
Each role you apply for, each new connection you make; these are opportunities. Do your homework and curtail your resume to highlight your skills and experience the company is seeking. Go the extra mile and make phone calls, send messages, and utilize your connections to reach the powers-that-be to show your genuine interest and qualifications

The next 3 months tend to be quiet, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t opportunities out there or time to take advantage of.

Best of luck. We’re here to help.
